Pain is [NOT] a dirty word (2018)
My work is an investigation into the connections between private and public pain.
My interest in this subject is rooted in my own experience of pain, loss, and trauma. Through my art, I revisit the reaction my loved ones had to my grief and how that, in turn, forced me to conceal my feelings. I focus on the complexity of speaking publicly about one’s suffering, as an alternative to the neat bottling up of these emotions.
My creative process derives from using Kurt Cobain’s private journals as an original source. My intervention in Cobain’s diary allows me to return to the moment when my agony was pushed out of the public realm into a deeply personal space.
Through these artistic processes, I place my pain back out in the open.
